Hello Frederico,

Thanks for the contribution! I downloaded the source and took a look. A couple of suggestions.

1. The links in your post to google code are broken (I had to search googlecode to find your project.)

2. Implementing ASDOCs would be a huge improvement, and or a doc that lays out the architecture. I am walking through the code, but sans any docs/comments within the code it is a bit difficult to figure out the architecture/design patterns.

2. A new version is coming out in the next few weeks, and I hope I have time to write decent documentation. The architecture will be slighty different and easier to understand.

Hi Frederico, thanks a lot for releasing this utility! I’m eagerly awaiting the new version as well

I am however, in the same boat as Anthony in that I want to add multiple charts/graphs/images (in addition to text) to one report with appropriate pagination as well. If you can add some possible solutions to your next version, even if in idea-form, then I’ll be happy to try to help out and contribute back to this project.

Hi,

Support for datagrids is included by default with PrintDataGrid.

Auto-pagination of multiple charts/graphs/images (any component actually) is already implemented by Body. There’s a bug in Body that seems to prevent from adding two images one after the other, which is pending for resolution. If anyone already solved it please let me know

Do you have plans to support local PDF saving when running in an AIR app?

Also, when I print 2 pages are always printed even though only 1 appears in the preview. The second page is completely blank except for a grey rectangle in the upper right corner. I’ve tried this on many different printers and all of them are producing the same results.

Any thoughts?

I’ll be adding local PDF saving for my application. If you’d like a contributor, let me know.

Hi Tom, I found this response posted elsewhere addressing the blank page problem… It looks like the template’s height and width need to be set to the PrintJob’s pageHeight and pageWidth for the printer to correctly size the job.

Got it sorted. The guestimate values for the document template values weren’t matching what our printer actually wanted. Added the following values to doPrint in the Document class after the printJob is started.

template.height = printJob.pageHeight;
template.width = printJob.pageWidth;

The print preview is now only an estimate, but printing works correctly every time.

Thank you for your cool project,it will be a great help for many people!
I have tested to input some Unicode text in print text,but it seems to not support ,would you help to add Unicode support in your project?
The next question,if I want to use your project to support many different print job, a easy XML template builder is what I need,for my case,I’m using Excel to create XML template and then fill up data by PHP,but the only way I can is output a excel file to client,there is any way can import the excel XML template by Flex and as a print job in your project?

Hi Calvin,

What exactly do you need Unicode for? If you’re trying to use a specific language you shoud use a font that supports it. In order to get similar display and print font metrics FlexReport requires the use of embedded fonts.

About the second question, why would you want to make XML templates if you can create them with MXML and code the logic in AS3? The whole idea behind FlexReport is to just get the data from the server and populate the template with that data.

Hey, very cool stuff.

I’m a little confused on how to use it. I have some components that I want to print.

Let’s say they are comp1, comp2, comp3.

How can I use your code to print it? Maybe they would click a button and it would just to your print layout. I dun know though…

Hi Paul,

create.php is part of the alivepdf library. As far as I know there is no Coldfusion version of it. You should check on the alivepdf forum if anyone can help you with that.

I’ve never used coldfusion, and i’m just guessing, but create.php is quite simple and it shouldn’t be that hard for you to make the porting. If you decide to make it on your own you have a java version herethat might be helpful too

This is all great, amazing actually, I spent a great deal of research and reading about reporting through FLEX; and frankly the best I could come up with before this project was to utilize Apache FOP through PHP; by creating XSLT templates and biding them to XML data.

BUT THIS PROJECT!!!!!!! it is just WOW, great job and really thanks for sharing.

Downloading the source via SVN is a hassle for people on secure networks (need to get an svn client on an internet-only machine). It’d be nice if there was a simple zip file kept up to date on google code for each major version, instead of just the svn repository.

Added this to the if block in doPrint for Document.as:

template.height = printJob.pageHeight;
template.width = printJob.pageWidth;

All it did was make the problem worse, now it prints the same two pages (one blank with a grey box), and two others that are completely blank.
